Pokémon dropped one heck of a tease at the 2026 World Championships — ex★ is coming.

And of course they introduced it with Entei, Raikou and Suicune. Old-school collectors know exactly why that choice made ears perk up: the same Legendary trio had some of the most iconic Gold Star cards in EX Unseen Forces.

Pokémon has not officially said Gold Stars are returning, and we still do not know exactly what the ★ means. It could be a new mechanic, a new rarity or treatment, or something that mixes both.

But ex + ★ + the Legendary Beasts is one heck of a callback. Whether this becomes a true Gold Star revival or something completely new, Pokémon definitely knew how to get collectors talking.

I’m especially curious whether ex★ ends up connecting to the bigger shift we’ve been watching with alternate color treatments and parallel-style chases. If Pokémon starts stacking new mechanics with collectible treatments, the next era of the TCG could get interesting FAST.
